Johor Bahru & nearby: Cheap things to do with Kids Part 3
– Batu Pahat
– Yong Peng
To save money, we have been taking short family trips to Johor, which has many treasures to discover and appreciate. It is easy to find places to visit via blogs, TripAdvisor and Google Maps.
For Batu Pahat and Yong Peng, we chose to make day trips as we were based in Kluang.
Although we couldn’t finish visiting all the interesting sights in these two towns, I hope this will give you a better idea of what you can do in Batu Pahat and Yong Peng.
What To Do In Batu Pahat
Batu Pahat is about a 2 plus hour drive from Singapore. It is a 40 minute drive from either the Ayer Hitam exit (same exit as Kluang) or Yong Peng exit at the North South highway.
You could stay at Batu Pahat for a couple of nights and enjoy the sights in this town. There are:
Several shopping malls (Batu Pahat Mall which is more happening, Square One which is a bit deserted but quiet)
We love MBO Kecil cinemas as they are very kid-friendly. There are playgrounds both outside and inside the cinema hall, brighter halls so parents can tend to their kids, and options for kid seats and sofas too.
Yong’s Steamboat is one steamboat worth visiting. Waiters will come by with platefuls of ingredients to cook and you can just choose what you like to eat. Parking is easy (just next to the restaurant) and you can choose both indoor (aircon) and outdoor (fan) tables.
Play Indoor Swimming Pool is an affordable small indoor pool with slides and a hanging bridge. The water is pretty cold though. There are shower facilities, benches to rest at and the entrance is at the back part of the building.Rates for the Play Indoor Swimming Pool.

Traffic can get heavy sometimes especially during peak hours as Batu Pahat is quite a big town.
What To Do In Yong Peng
Yong Peng is super near the North South Highway.
Although it is a common rest stop for buses, Yong Peng has other attractions worth visiting.
