I’ve been waiting for HarriAnns Nonya Table to open since I realised it took over half of Woobox’s unit at Ocean Financial Centre at Raffles Place, a short 1 minute walk from Raffles Place MRT.
HarriAnns is a family-run business started by Mdm Chia Nga Eng in the late 1940s and has been run for three generations.
Mdm Chia, who was widowed, cooked and sold glutinous rice and Nonya kueh in Tiong Bahru to raise her two sons.
She retired in 1996 and handed over the business to her son Harry and daughter-in-law, Ann. Their son came up with the name “HarriAnns”.
Till today, each kueh is handmade using the freshest premium ingredients.
The Peranakan cafe is a welcome addition to the salad bars and international offerings of Raffles Place.
Although you can also buy nyonya kuehs at the nearby Bengawan Solo, you can’t enjoy a good bowl of chap chye with a refreshing drink there.
HarriAnns Nonya Table’s menu is pretty comprehensive, with breakfast sets cheaper than Ya Kun, specialty drinks at affordable prices (compared to $6 for Boost and Starbucks), and a wide variety of kueh, kueh and more kueh.
I had the impression that prices may be jacked up as rentals at Ocean Financial Centre can be expensive.
However, I was pleasantly surprised to see that there are sets which are reasonably priced, like 3 pieces of kueh for $3.
I was also happy to learn that HarriAnns has a stored value card which upon minimum top up of $20, you’ll get extra 20% of credits.
So I got myself a card with $20 upfront payment and $4 credits for a total of $24 in stored value.
In case your friends are not in the kueh mood, HarriAnns Nonya Table also sells western cakes and egg tarts.
You can even purchase their biscuits in a container as gifts or for office snacks.
