Crochet Connectz: Cute Customised Amigurumi

While supporting the setting up of CaringSG, a charity for special needs caregivers, I’ve had the privilege of getting to know a group of empowered caregivers under the CAREcottage initiative.

These caregivers, together with their children, have formed a cottage industry of artisans who create unique and meaningful gifts and services.

One of them is Ling, a mum who launched Crochet Connectz, an e-store selling handmade crochet and amigurumi (crocheted stuffed dolls).

Previously having purchased a yellow and purple crocheted bee from CaringSG at the 2022 Purple Parade, I thought customised amigurumi would make special gifts for my family.

Hence I contacted Ling, and we set to work on discussing different amigurumi for my family members. Ling helped to source for designs and crochet patterns, and advise on suitable colours and yarns for each of the amigurumi you see below.

From left: Whale, Guinea pigs, cactus
Clockwise (from top left) : Mouse, alpaca, sloth, dolphin, grey dog head, white dog head
Owl with gold yarn
Furry yellow duck
Turtle
Hamtaro

We took into consideration the animal or character my family member liked, preferred colours, and looked at several possible patterns to confirm the final design.

I enjoyed the discussions we had over IG on the designs, and appreciated the hard work and effort she took to make each amigurumi.

Ling would also order yarn if she felt the design required a special finishing touch, such as furry yarn for the duck and guinea pigs.

As Ling had other orders to attend to, we spaced out my orders over a few months. Her son was also engaged in helping her to fulfil our orders.

Every family member was delighted with the handmade amigurumi and I’ve saved a couple for myself as stress balls for quick anxiety relief.

If you are looking for a handmade gift for a family member or friend, or need a unique gift for a corporate order, check out Ling’s designs on her IG page and website.
