Where to eat Michelin Bib Gourmand herbal horfun in Singapore, under $10
You wouldn’t really expect to find a Michelin Bib Gourmand horfun in a food court.
But that’s just what I did at the Level 4 Kopitiam at CompassOne shopping centre in Sengkang.
Tucked in a corner on the right when entering Kopitiam, Shi Hui Yuan sells chicken and duck horfun with herbal braised sauce, that has been cooking interrupted for 30 years.
Each bowl contains 1500mg of collagen and over 30 herbs were used to make the broth.
Being an absolute sucker for herbal soups and broths, I was excited to try Shi Hui Yuan’s dishes as I’ve heard several friends recommending this brand.
This Michelin Bib Gourmand awardee for four consecutive years — 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019 — sells horfun with its collagen broth from an affordable $5.40 (chicken horfun).
I tried the Blissful Set pictured above for $7.80 and thoroughly enjoyed the bowl of horfun topped with chicken, duck, spare ribs, egg, vegetables, and two whole juicy mushrooms!
The horfun was accompanied by Shi Hui Yuan’s famous broth, which revealed its complex herbal flavours without overwhelming the palate.
My only regret was not asking for the broth to be served in a separate bowl so I could easily drink it straight.
Shi Hui Yuan serves rice dishes under its Tubby Rice series and assorted side dishes such as fish cake and ngoh hiang (I recommend the giant wonton).
